MORSE RECEIVE - F9
Morse Receive is a general purpose morse sounding program, which
will accurately sound morse from 5 to 99 WPM, Paris Test. The program will
sound ASCII files as morse code and will accept input from the keyboard
for type written reception. Type written transcription will be marked
at the completion of morse sounding. The suggested speed increments for
improving morse reception speed are 5, 8, 10, 12, 15, 18, 20 and 22 WPM.
A symbol speed of 18 or 20 WPM should be used. Aim to increase the morse
speed only when your morse accuracy consistantly exceeds 98%.
Morse Sounding Parameters.
The following data is required for morse sounding:
1. Morse Character Speed, a value in the range of 5 to 99 WPM.
2. Inter Character Delay, a value in the range of 5 to 1200 ms.
3. Inter Word Delay, a value in the range of 5 to 1200 ms.
You may use the WPM calculator for total speed determination or consult
MORSE SPEEDS from the help menu.
4. Choose the type of file to sound, Plain, Letter or Figures.
5. Select CONTINUE or press ENTER to display files for selection.
6. Choose a file to sound from the selection window.
Typewritten Transcription.
The Morse Receive program will accept input from the keyboard
while morse sounding is in progress. Only upper case symbols will be
displayed to the screen for morse by type. To correct an error while
morse sounding is in progress, use the BACKSPACE KEY. This key will
delete the previous character, and is the only key which can be used for
error correction (while sounding is in progress).
When morse sounding is finished, or ALT+X has been pressed, you
will be able to fully edit your morse receive file. If you modify the
file, you will be prompted to save your work when you press ALT+X to Exit.
If you choose not to save the file, any changes made will not be saved.
The morse file will be marked against the master copy as soon as
you exit the editor. The marker will display the number of symbols in
the file, the number of symbols received, the number of characters missed,
the number of extra characters inserted, the number wrong and total errors.
Your percentage result will also be displayed. Files which are very poor
may not be fully marked, and will be sent to the UNMARKED directory for
manual marking. In cases where extra symbols are inserted and then
symbols are missed, the extra/missed count may be incorrect, however, the
total error count will be correct.
The name of the file sounded, morse speed and percentage results
are recorded to file.

Morse Sounding for Written Transcription.
If the program is used for morse sounding with no keyboard input,
only the file name and the morse speed are recorded to file.
